National Health Mission of India (NHM) under IHIP Login
In 2008, the National Health Mission of India (NHM) started a national disease registry entitled Indian Health Registry Medic Portal. The registry was envisaged as a repository of information about patients such as their age, sex, place of residence, socio-economic status and disease profile with respect to mental health disorders, cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
The registry also includes information on the status of diagnosis and treatment of the patient and follow-up data. These registries are being set up by various State governments under NHM to collate healthcare delivery data from primary health centres (PHCs) in rural areas into one centralised database for easy access by research scholars and policy makers. The Indian Government plans to cover 100% villages by the end of 2017 and cover all PHCs by the end of 2018.
The government has also released a national mental health survey report (NMS), which can be used to guide policy and programmatic interventions in fighting mental health disorders in India. The NMS was conducted between January and December 2016, covering all states, union territories (UTs) and capital cities, with a sample size of over 1 lakh persons from across the country.
The NMS is unique because it included both the rural and urban populations for the first time, unlike previous such surveys that focused only on urban populations. The findings are based on interviews with respondents from all age groups above 18 years. It provided insights into public perception about mental illness or depression
Integrated Disease Surveillance Program(IDSP) is funded by WHO.
The WHO is the leading global health organization that fights against diseases, including those that do not have a specific cure. The WHO has an Integrated Disease Surveillance Program to monitor the development of new diseases and outbreaks. Newer forms of surveillance technology are also implemented in the program to help guide public health decisions in each country.
The History of the Program
The Integrated Disease Surveillance Program began in the early 2000s as a response to the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The program was designed to improve global disease surveillance and response capabilities.
Since its inception, the program has expanded to include a network of over 100 countries. The program is funded by the World Health Organization and continues to play a vital role in global disease surveillance and response.
